We know it’s still only 2011, but the catwalk shows in Milan, Paris, New York and London have given us a glimpse of the hot new colour trends that are going to be hitting stores next year. We’ve taken a look at the colours that flooded 2011’s Fashion Weeks to give you our must-have shades for the coming year.
Dip-dyed ombre
Dip-dyed hair was the essential celebrity hairstyle this year and next year sees the look transfer to clothing. The subtler sister of tie-dye looks amazing on floor-length styles, showing off this unique dyeing technique to full-effect. You’ll find a whole range of bright rainbow shades in the stores and a huge selection of dip-dyed dresses already available at various fashion retailers online. For a subtler take on this bold new colour trend, go for candy pastels, natural sand and beige tones, or silver and grey hues rather than brights.

Bursting with berry
This year’s catwalks as well as red carpet soirees were dripping with berry shades and luscious, vibrant reds. A-listers Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman all looked stunning at the Oscars in deep purples and berry reds, and this colour palette looks set to add some red carpet glamour to our closets come 2012, especially when it comes to evening wear.
Tangy orange
NY and London Fashion Week were awash with orange this year and this looks set to be a big colour trend for spring/summer 2012. The likes of Derek Lam and Charlotte Ronson showed off a range of orange hues in their 2011 shows that look especially fabulous on darker skin tones. Go bold with neon brights and tangy tangerines, or keep it subtle with pale orange pastels. If you don’t want to go the colour-block route then add dashes of orange to your spring/summer wardrobe with orange detailing, statement jewellery and tangy orange accessories. Fashion Union, is one of the many retailers that have an inspiring range of orange dresses and accessories.

Perfect pastels
No colour palette sums up the fresh feeling of spring like pastels. These uniquely feminine shades were all over the NY and London Fashion Week runways and they’re essential to an on-trend spring/summer 2012 wardrobe. Great with a tan and perfect for those who like their look clean and minimal, utilise colour-blocking with a simple shift, or break it up with crisp, fresh white pieces – another must-have spring shade.

Whiter than white
The hands-down must-have shade of spring/summer 2012 is classic white. The ultimate summer shade, it’s perfect for days in the sun and for showing off that tan. Work white into your wardrobe with other key trends for next year, from monochrome mod cuts and flowing white maxis to sheer fabrics and layered lace. If bright white colour-blocking isn’t your thing, then look out for softer off-white hues or use textured fabrics like off-white lace instead.
