Jeans are one of our favorite items. A few weeks ago I wrote about items that you should not save money on, and jeans were on that list. The reason for that is that jeans are for many women an essential part of the wardrobe, as they can be worn practically anywhere all depending on the color and cut, however finding a good pair of jeans that do your body justice, can be a difficult task.
Here are some tips about finding and taking care of your jeans!
How to wash your jeans
Dark denim often fades, that’s why you should wash them at low temperatures. Use washing liquid, as washing powder gets into the fibers and turns into white stripes. Some jeans-lovers even recommend not washing your jeans, but steaming them, by hanging them in the bathroom while your in the bath. I haven’t tried that tip, so let me know how it works for you, if you have.
Freshen up the color
If you have one favorite pair of black jeans and the color has faded and they’ve become grey, you can freshen up the color by dying them with black Dylon Fabric Dyes. Dylon comes in every color and is suitable for all fabrics.
If the jeans are too tight
Dampening the fabric will help strech the denim manually. You can stretch the jeans with your hands or put them on and do some “jeans aerobics”, where you do some unflattering, but effective squats. They should now fit!
Jeans for your shape
We are all shaped differently and so are the jeans. Finding the pair that fits your figure can be somewhat of a problem, but fear not, here are a few rules to keep in mind, all depending on your figure:
- Slim Body Shape - Skinny jeans are your friend. Choose a pair that’s long and tight at the ankle to flatter your figure.
Famous ladies with this shape: Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie
- Hourglass Figure - Find some jeans that are wider around the hip and thigh area. To achieve the best look choose boot-cut and wide legged jeans, as their wider hem will deflect attention away from waist, hips and thighs. Make sure to avoid jeans with too much detailing and embellishments, as they just add unnecessary bulk.
Famous ladies with this shape: Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek & Scarlett Johansson
- Brick-like shape - Boyfriend jeans are a great solution, as they will enhance your hip and thigh area and make your body look more feminine and pear-shaped. Tone down the masculine effect of the boyfriend jeans with a feminine, fitted top.
Famous ladies with this shape: Jennifer Hudson, Kim Cattrall & Judi Dench
Remember…
- Jeans must not be too tight, making your panties stick out. That’s one of the most unflattering looks for a woman.
- Never let your stomach hang over the jeans. Low-cut jeans should only be worn by the super-skinny Victoria Beckham-type. They don’t look flattering and are uncomfortable to wear if you have a little extra around your waist.
- Make sure your jeans are the right length. Too short is a no go and so is too long. Jeans that are too long get ruined when you walk, and become very uncharming.
- Jeans should not be ripped on or below your behind or anywhere near that part for your body. It’s just not a look for sophisticated women.

I had no idea that washing jeans in powder was destructive. Thanks for the tip.
My legs are 33″ and I wear 34″ inseam because I like them when they are a little baggy (I definatley prefer a little too long to ankle swingers lol)
My mum always fades my jeans :@
I love straight leg jeans because they are not too tight and you don’t have to be stick thin to wear them, plus they look good with boots or flats. I love skinny flare jeans too!
Fantastic tips! I’m in love with jeans and wear them a lot. I’m going to be usig some of these tips, especially the one about making them fit if they’re too tight.
Great! I’m glad you liked it – let me know how it turns out
