The lovely Sherin introduced me to Susie, an American PhD student living in the UK, while I was living in London and she quickly became a very good friend. Susie is intelligent, creative, extremely funny and needless to say, stunningly beautiful. I enjoyed every day we spent together whether it was going street style hunting on Brick Lane, eating chocolate cake in Green Park or catching a play in indie theaters located in dodgy parts of the city, we both love so much.

All the pictures below are taken from Susie’s romanting, inspiring and beautiful blog, Take-Out In Couture, so make sure to check it out for lots more!

Interview With Susie

1. Describe your style in three words… Classic, understated, quirky.

2. What’s the one fashion item you love the most? My beetle necklace is a definite favorite.  I bought it from Atlantis Dry Goods last year.  I wear it all of the time.   It is also one of the first things that people ask about when they see me in person.  They want to know how heavy it is, where I got it…  People have even asked me “where is the beetle?” on occasions that I am not wearing it!

3. What’s always in your handbag? My BlackBerry.  After years of either not owning a phone or having the most basic phone on the market, I have become a complete technophile.  I’m not a huge texter, but I find things like the Underground Map and GPS very useful when getting around London.  I also like to use down time to catch up on emails and read my favorite blogs…total multi-tasker here!

4. What’s your best fashion tip? Dress for yourself.

5. What’s your best beauty tip? People always say a good diet and adequate hydration is most important, and I think that this is true.  I try to drink about 1.5 liters of water a day and to eat a sensible diet.  I’ve found this makes a huge difference in the way that I look and feel on a daily basis.  Concerning beauty products, things I can’t live without are the Bare Escentuals brow kit in brunette and Chanel liquid eyeliner.  I can’t rave enough about the brow kit and the liquid eyeliner is the best I’ve ever tried: it’s quick drying and stays put.

6. You’re an American living in the UK… What are the greatest differences between American and European style? Honestly, the comparison isn’t really something I’ve thought too much about since I started blogging (which is when I consciously thinking about my own personal style), while living in the UK.  It will definitely be something I’ll think about when I return home for visits.  I do think there’s a really relaxed “anything goes” vibe about London fashion, which I love  People aren’t afraid to be fearless, to have fun with it.  People always say that the British look is a bit more edgy and little less polished than American style, and while I think that to be true in some cases, it is likely to depend on which part of the States you’re comparing it to.

7. What should a man never wear according to you? Oh wow. I am going to go ahead and say ironic tees, trucker hats, and newsboy caps… oh, and that Justin Bieber haircut.

Susie is one of my favorite bloggers! This was a great interview and I loved your intro as well. So nice to get to know her a bit more! And totally agree with ‘what men should never wear’. Can I also add jeans that are so loose that your underwear shows? I’m also not a fan of the skinny-jeans-Converse look that so many males are wearing these days; I think it makes them look more like ‘boys’ than ‘men’, but that’s just me ;)
