I recently read an interview in a magazine with Peter Phillips – the creative director and make-up artist of Chanel. He is a man on a mission – the mission to bring back the lipstick into our handbags. Phillips claims that women go through a transformation when we put on lipstick. He doesn’t see the lipstick as just a beauty product – to him, the lipstick is an accessory as well. He says about the lipstick:
…it’s a way of being seductive. It’s the women’s power-tool.
Lipstick vs Lipgloss
Phillips claims that the difference between using a lipgloss and a lipstick is the same as the difference
between wearing a pair of flat shoes and a pair of high heels – your posture changes completely, when you wear the heels.
He claims that the lipstick is more mature – without being old-fashioned, even though some see it as that. He furthermore says that women are afraid of using lipstick – they think that it’s too difficult to put on and many feel that red lipstick is too dramatic.
But lipstick is not only red, Phillips says in hope that the ‘gloss-generation” will open its hearts to the traditional lipstick.
3 Lipstick Tips
Your lips are placed in the middle of your face and they are looked at while you speak, so use some time finding the right lipstick. You can buy a lipgloss blindfolded, but just like a pair of high heels, a lipstick needs to be tried on!
- Use a lip pencil (in the same color as the lipstick) to line or fill in the lip. Then, fill in the color from the center of the lip. You can also put the lipstick on the lower lip and squeeze the lips together for a less intense color.
- If your teeth have a yellow tone, choose a lipgloss with a blue undertone (cooler colors) – it will even out the color difference.
Rouge Coco
Peter Phillips and Chanel claim they have the answer to how to get the lipstick back into out lipgloss loving handbags. They have created a new lipstick that is a lot more creamy and much easier to put on than a regular lipstick – it is called Rouge Coco and comes in 30 shades. I haven’t tried it out, but if you have, do let me know how it is!

Hello! Well (now) I will consider trying lipstick only because it does seem more mature. The first experience I had with lipstick was bad! lol Only because I didn’t quite know how to find the right tone for my crazy skin color. Its like a caramel color and can be very hard to find things that match it! So I will go to my nearest Sephora or MAC counter and tell them to test me for a new LIPSTICK!
I have to admit, Im a slave to trends… :)
Thanks for the comment :)
I know what you mean – I’m so ready to go out and buy a new lipstick tomorrow ;) I have been thinking about this for a while and all of a sudden I see this article. I think I’m gonna go for a lighter shade to start with and then see if I dare try out a red lip one day! I have always wanted to, but never dared!
To me very much there are such shades because I the brunette. I always have such lipstick.
I didn’t know lipstick ever went out of style! It makes thin lips fuller, thick lips thinner, defines the shape, etc. My concern is the contents — some lipsticks are very, very bad for your health.
Listen to the make-up man from Chanel ladies! Lipstick is always in fashion and anything with the word Chanel attached to it pretty much means you will look slammin!
True! I love Chanel! :)
Thanks for the comment, Maile!
