How To Shop On Sale

by Milana on March 2, 2009

Sale is great; everything you’ve seen through the season is cheap. But should you buy it, just because it’s cheap? NO! A great rule, I once read in a magazine is “Do not buy anything under 30 % off’”. A better rule is to buy clothes you need instead of buying clothes you think you need just because they’re cheap.

The sale rule

The clothes that are on sale are usually from the last season, which means the trends that are slowly exiting. The colors and the patterns all used to be in all the magazines and on all celebrities.

The most important rule is to stay away from the very recognizable models and that season’s hottest trends. For instance, overalls come and go. They’re not that comfortable, don’t look that hot and people usually wear them because they’re in and not because they’re great.

What should you then buy on sale?

I usually buy designer clothes on sale and stick to pieces that are “not” trendy. These include jeans, cardigans, simple blouses and blazers; classics. Clothes that you know you always need and that you will keep in your wardrobe for a long time. A good thing about designer clothes is the quality. It is simply better.

So, when on sale, don’t fall for the price, fall for the clothes. It’s better to buy one thing you know you will wear and feel good in, than to buy five pieces of clothes, just because they were cheap.

Excellent advice. Sales can be very dangerous if you don’t have a very good idea of what you need before you walk into the store.

Really sound advice, I am pretty “anit-trend”. I tend to buy pieces that I love and that are timeless. Personal style knows no other way. Great post!
