How To Wear a Biker Leather Jacket

My choice

by Milana on October 10, 2009

A couple of weeks ago I visited the capital of fashion; Paris. Wonderful street style and great fashion everywhere you look. While in Paris, I fell head over heels in love… With a leather biker jacket!

It can be worn in so many different ways and can give you many different looks day and night. Make sure you choose a good biker jacket though. What I mean by that is you need to invest in this trend if you really want to follow it. Here are some pointers:

  • Buy a genuine leather jacket – they’re more expensive, but far more comfortable, look better and last longer
  • Find a modern version of a biker jacket – you want your jacket to be feminine and accentuate your waist, therefore choose a fitted jacket
  • Think long about what you can wear your jacket with – maybe it just doesn’t fit your style and mind-set, however I feel that a biker jacket suits any age, style and outfit, if worn right

Once you’ve become the proud owner of a hot, leather jacket you need to think about how you wear it:

  • As the biker jacket can be seen as somewhat edgy, rock n’ roll and masculine, try avoiding pairing the jaket with other items that are like that; western boots, Dr. Martens, Converse. Unless you really are going for the 80s rock chick/festival/concert look
  • Don’t go too far the other way either and wear dresses made out of too feminine materials and colours like rose silk. Your style will then become messy and Courtney Love-ish – and that we don’t want…
  • For a more sophisticated and elegant look pair the jacket up with some cool high heels, some skinny jeans and a pretty blouse – your look will then become elegant and stylish, but somewhat edgy and cool!

Here is the jacket of my choice (All Saints Mohan Leather Jacket) worn in three different ways; lunch, work and at a night out:

Love your stylings. Any advice for those of us who are not built for skinny jeans i.e. pear shaped???

Thank you for your comment, Tina!

In my opinion everyone can wear skinny jeans, as long as you choose a blouse that covers the areas that you are not comfortable with. Skinny jeans are called skinny because they’re skinny arund the lower parts of your legs, so they don’t differ a whole lot from straight leg jeans in the upper area. However, I think that straight leg jeans are making a comeback pretty soon, so I would deffinitely go for a pair of these as a substitute to skinny jeans – check these ones out and tell me what you think:

I’m so jealous that you got to go to Paris! I want to there someday, not just to shop but to try out all that delicious pastries I’ve heard about. :) So, for how long were you in France???

Anyway, I really love the leather jacket! You always have cute ideas on here on what to wear and what not to wear. LOL!
I think my favorite is the “Out to Lunch” and “A Night Out” look! Love it!!!! And you know what I’m thinking about right now? Well, I’m thinking it’s time to go shopping! ;) You’re so inspiring…

I did go shopping actually! I didn’t get me a leather jacket though; I probably have to save some money if I want to buy me a real nice one. Instead I bought me a Plaid Pintuck Tunic and some jewelry LOL!
By the way I became your fan on Facebook! :D

Have to admit that I’ve got in trouble a little, when my Chilean model put her leather jacket on…. God she was so hot! Try then to keep being professional and treat her respectfully like you’re supposed to treat your models. :-/

if she was my girlfriend, I think I’d force to wear it every day haha.

This is the look I’m talking about:

… and Milana, what can I say but – you’re so right with every-single-word on this page! Honestly.

My husband and I bought our first of three motorcycles in 1997 so I own a lot of biker clothing. I don’t care for the studs on the jacket that is pictured above. There are actually very attractive biker jackets in the Harley-Davidson stores. Their designers do a good job of creating clothing that not only looks hot on a bike but can be worn almost anywhere you might go. I like a cream colored lace top with my biker jacket. Throw a couple of strands of pearls around my neck and change into some nice black heels and I’m ready to go. I don’t like looking TOO put together, that would be boring.

These are all pretty outfits, but dammit I love wearing my biker jacket with Doc Martins and rock t-shirts, I don’t like looking like I’m wearing a costume but there’s nothing wrong with punking out once in a while.

I love your ideas, but I don’t like to wear high heels on a daily basis, so what other shoes could fit? :)

You could definitely wear cute flats – in leather or other materials. I do that myself a lot too! :) Thanks!
