How To Wear Polka Dots

by Milana

Polka dots are returning as a hot trend this season! Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2011 collection was filled with polka dots, but this time around they were bigger, more structured and therefore more sophisticated.

So, how do we wear polka dots, without looking dated and matronly? You can choose to follow this trend through details and accessories, or you can go all the way and wear a polka dot dress or jacket. Whatever you choose to do, have fun with it!

Here are three different looks for inspiration:

If you’re in a creative, modern company that likes to dress casually and smart, this outfit could inspire your summer wardrobe. Here, the polka dots are subtle mixed with another hot summer trend, namely the floral print!

Gone shopping…

PRODUCT INFO: BagSandals – Jumpsuit – Hat - Bangle

This little jumpsuit is very fashionable – we saw something similar on Sienna Miller not too long ago. Mixing it with a 1960s woven hat with polka dots makes the look more personal and chic. Adding some raw details like the bangle and the gladiators with silver studs creates the perfect contrast to the hat and the polka dots, making the outfit more modern and edgy.

Spotted at night…

PRODUCT INFO: DressClutchShoesRing

Polka dots are mostly associated with daytime and especially swimwear and lingerie. But the bigger and more structured dots can add a little fun to a sophisticated party outfit. A dress like this needs subtle accessories, so go with simple jewelry, handbag, hair and shoes. The dots are enough detail on their own!

How would you wear it? Subtle details or polka dots all the way?

I’m not much for prints, but I have to admit I am LOVING polka dots this year. Want more! Love the skirt in the first ensemble, really fun!

I love the fact that you have not gone for the very obvious polka dot styles. Less is more as they say!

Yes, I like this style to be a little more subtle. It loses effect when all you have on are polka dots! Thanks so much for the comment, Lindsey! Xx Milana
