Military blazers and jackets have been around for many many years and if you take a good look at your wardrobe through the years, I’m sure you can find or think of a military inspired piece of clothing that you have or have had at one point. And I’m not thinking of military camouflage prints, but for example double button cardigans, blazers, skirts and jackets.
My military blazer
The other day I was out shopping for a birthday gift and I saw a beautiful military blazer from a Scandinavian brand called Vila, but I just can’t find a picture of it on the Internet, so here are some homemade pictures (The blazer is actually grey, but my fake polaroid camera program made it greenish!):
What I like about these jackets and blazers is the fact that they are very androgynous.
- They mix the feminine and masculine perfectly and can make an outfit more feminine or more edgy depending on the rest of the outfit
- The detailing is also very interesting as the buttons serve as accessories
- The cut of modern military jackets and blazers for women is also great as the double button gives us a more fitted shape
What colour should I choose?
The traditional military jacket is either black, beige or khaki. And those are some great colours, but I also like the fact that colours and shape can change and modernize an otherwise conservative and traditional garment, so here are some great examples of modern military jackets and blazers in different colours:
JACKET INFO Blue, Black, Grey, Yellow, Blue, Black
As you see, there are a lot of different shapes, colours and materials to choose from. Some are very chic and different (like the first one) and suitable for young modern women, while others are more traditional (like the black and grey at the end) and suitable for modern mature women too.
How do I wear it?
The thing about these military biker jackets or blazers is that they are often short, so be careful when it comes to layering. The look can become messy if you have too many tops hanging out from under the jacket, so make sure that your blouse is fairly tight around the waist/hip area or at least not longer than the jacket.
Here is a styling showing how you can wear a plain beige blouse, a black cardigan and black pants – a fairly ordinary outfit- and pair it up with a cool military jacket making it much more stylish and different.

So, do you have a military inspired jacket or blazer?

I love the blue and tan military jackets, very different.
and about the fur…
I have one great mink coat from my grandmother that I only wear once every winter just because it reminds of her! But I do have a fantastic fake fur vest that looks great with everything and keeps me warm all winter.

Fur is so in at the moment – and they do look great, but I stay away from them just because I’ve seen one too many documentaries about them!
I like the story about your mink coat though – that’s very sweet…
Military jackets are great! I don’t own one, but I’ve always wanted to. I love the grey one from the first set!
Thank you, Sherin. Yes, I love the grey one too – the asymmetrical front makes it very modern.
I think military jackets are fashionable and stylish and everything, but for some reason I can’t see myself in one, but maybe I will someday. I agree with Sherin, the grey one is very cool.
Thank you for your great blog and fashion advice
Thank you so much, Anna!
I’ve been iffy about military jackets for a long time myself, but when I saw this military blazer I fell in love with it! It gives my sometimes a bit too conventional black work outfits a nice touch!
At first I thought that you had taken a picture of a green jacket! LOL! Umm… Yeah let’s just say that I’m glad you explained why it looked green. Hehehe!
My favorite one is the gray one too! Oh, oh and the blue one too except it would look cuter in a different color in my opinion but I’m loving the style! With winter practically here I need to go in search of coats and jackets. I will keep this style in mind! Ta Ta for now!
It’s grey, but turned out ugly-green!
I’m glad to hear that you girls like the grey one – it’s actually only about $58, which is pretty cheap for a winter jacket/coat!
Keep me posted on your choice of winter jacket!
I heart your blog, love this post

I never would have seen that the blue jacket was military until you pointed it out. They would also look great with ruffles at neck and cuffs.
I know what you mean! After I was done writing about military jackets, I noticed that my winter coat is very much military inspired- I hadn’t even thought of that before.
(My coat is a bit different than the model in the picture – it’s a bit shorter and has different pockets, but has exactly the same detailing)
I love military jackets, yours is beautiful. I haven’t seen that in the Vila store yet.
Great blog btw, I’m gonna bookmark it
Thank you very much, Fashion Pix! I’m glad you like it!
